Jim

I’ve been postponing the writing of this piece for some time. I’ve been hoping that it would not become necessary to be the bearer of bad news.

On the 8th of September, it became necessary to admit Jim to the hospital, where he still remains, with asthma and RLL (right lower-lobe) pneumonia. As always, when Jim becomes ill, it has been a struggle for him to maintain adequate levels of oxygen. However, things are begginning to look up a bit, Two days he was transferred from ICU, to a regular medical floor.

If you’re the praying kind, please remember Jim in your prayers. If not, please remember him and hope for his continued recovery.

Guy (Jim’s Dad)

Nuts!

Osama has offered a suggestion on how to end the war with Al Qaeda. He says that we should all convert to Islam.

“There are two solutions to stopping it. One is from our side, and it is to escalate the fighting and killing against you. This is our duty, and our brothers are carrying it out,” bin Laden said, according to the transcript.

“The second solution is from your side,” he said. “I invite you to embrace Islam.”

“It will also achieve your desire to stop the war as a consequence, because as soon as the warmongering owners of the major corporations realize that you have lost confidence in your democratic system and have begun to look for an alternative, and this alternative is Islam, they will run after you to please you and achieve what you want to steer you away from Islam,” he said.

He also invites us to turn away from our Democratic system of government.

“It has now become clear to you and the entire world the impotence of the democratic system and how it plays with the interests of the peoples and their blood by sacrificing soldiers and populations to achieve the interests of the major corporations.”

Well, in the famous words of WW II General Tony McAuliffe “Nuts!”. Let’s get one thing straight, I will never convert to Islam. Not by force, and certainly not by choice, and America will never give up it’s Democratic system of government by force!

Iraq And The MSM

I missed this from last week, but it’s well worth a post… or three. Karl over at Protein Wisdom has a great summary of the failures and inconsistencies of the MSM in their Iraq coverage. These Failures and inconsistencies go all the way back to the beginning of the invasion in 2003, and run all the way up to as recently as a week or so ago.

I’ve said all along that the media has a vested interest in seeing the war in Iraq fail. In fact, Bartle Bull — who has written about Iraq for the New York Times even went so far as to suggest that MSM coverage of Iraq has more to do with a “weirdly personal” obsession with the notion that Iraq must fail as anything else.

I don’t understand how Americans — and I am talking about the American Main Stream Media — could be so invested in seeing their own country fail in an endeavour as important as Iraq. Anyway, go read the whole thing. It’s well worth your time. Karl provides some great analysis and documentation.

Is It Time For A Site Redesign?

I’ve been considering a site redesign for quite some time. I don’t really have anything major in mind. I’d like to keep the same graphics, and maybe change the colors around a little. Really, the only major plan I had was to add a third column. I thought I’d open up the comments section to suggestions though. If you have any suggestions for how to make the site more user friendly please leave them in the comments section for this post.

Bloggers Choice Awards And An Update On The Project

My site was nominated for Best Political Blog!

Wow, what an honor. Thinking Right has been nominated for best political blog in the Bloggers Choice Awards. It’s cliche, but I couldn’t have done it without my readers. Let’s face it, unless someone’s reading this blog, it’s just me talking to myself. Anyway, stop by the Bloggers Choice Awards website and vote. There are alot of great blogs there in other catagories as well.

Now, an update on Project: “Letters from Home”. So far, I’ve recieved 380 emails. The response has really slowed down though, so anything you can do to spread the word would be greatly appreciated. If you’ve not sent a letter yet, it’s certainly not too late. If you have, well, there’s nothing that says you can’t send more than one letter. If you have a blog, please post about this project. Otherwise, please spread the word through email to your family and friends. The address the letters should be sent to is letters@thinking-right.com.

Once I reach the 500 mark, I plan on sending out the first batch of letters to the 1st battalion 1st Marine regiment. I know these men and women will really enjoy getting a letter of support from home. i would love to be there to see the look on their faces.
