I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all of their prayers and support.
Tuesday, Jim had a tracheostomy done in order to facilitate his breathing. Now that this has been done he is doing much better. In fact, the doctors believe that he is strong enough to have the ventilator removed in a couple of days. Hopefully, after a period of time, he will be well enough to be transferred to a rehab hospital to begin a prolonged period of physical rehabillitation.
Please continue to lift Jim in prayer before our Lord. He alone can accomplish what we as humans cannot do.

Even though Jim is still in ICU and on a ventilator, he continues to improve. The docs have discontinued most of the sedation Jim was receiving; so, he is a bit more awake and able to communicate by nodding his head and blinking his eyes. I had a long talk with his pulmonologist this morning and he seems to think Jim’s long term prognosis is fairly good. However, he will perhaps be facing some fairly serious surgery once he regains some strength.
As always, my thanks goes out to each and every person that has supported Jim and the rest of our family through your prayers and concern.

I just wanted to let everyone know, that while Jim is still in a coma, the doctors are very pleased with his progress. The x-rays of his lungs continue to show improvement and the blood studies show marked improvement as well. The doctor says that if all goes well, he should be able to remove Jim from the ventilator by the end of the coming week.
We are rejoicing in the good news and give thanks to the Lord for His healing touch.
Once again, my wife and I can never adequately express our thanks for your care, concern, and continued prayers.

Out of necessity, this post will be pretty short. Jim’s condition remains essentially unchanged. He still remains in very critical condition. The doctors are making some minor changes (tweaking) to the ventilator settings. One of the most encouraging bits of news is that the x-rays of his lungs show some improvement over previous x-rays.There have been minor changes…both for the better and for the worse over the last couple of days. We are trying our best not to get too excited over the good things or too down over the bad.
Please remember Jim and the rest of our family in your prayers. The stress of this situation is beginning to take it’s toll on the rest of the family.

Before I give the latest update on Jim, let me take this opportunity to thank everyone that has expressed their love and concern. Especially though, I cannot begin to express my gratitude for the all the prayers that have been lifted up before the Lord in Jim’s name.
Jim continues to struggle with pneumonia and Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome. He remains in a medically induced coma in very critical condition. However, he continues to fight very hard for for his life. The doctor explained to me today that this fight will be a very long difficult one and to expect setbacks from time to time…..along with the progress that he experiences.
Along with Jim’s healing, our greatest desire is that the Lord would be glorified in all of these events. For those so inclined…please continue to lift Jim before the Lord in prayer.

I am very saddened to have to make this post. Earlier this week Jim became seriously ill and once again, had to be admitted to the hospital. As of this post, Jim is in a local Denver hospital on life support. As those of you who are regular readers know, Jim has had to deal with multiple health issues over the last two and one-half years. I would ask those of you who are so inclined, to lift Jim before the Lord in prayer. I will continue to update his condition on my site.
Thank you for your prayers and concern,
GR Cannon (Jim’s Dad)

Don’t You Understand, We Don’t Want To Deal
One of the worst ideas to come from the Democrat obstructionism of Bush’s nominees is that the Republicans have to take whatever deal the Minority offers. I will say this again for those who are having a difficult time understanding it; we ran on a set of ideals and won. We are the majority. We represent the majority. The majority has the ability (laid out in the constitution) to give advice and consent for judicial nominees. The minority doesn’t.
The Democrats — by endlessly filibustering nominees — are stealing the power granted to the majority by the constitution. Knowing this, I was astounded (ok, not really) to read in the NY Times today that it is their opinion that Sen. Frist should have taken the offer given to him by the Democrats.
The offer, as I understand it, says that the Democrats would give the Republicans some of their nominees. Just who they would give them is unknown, but it seems pretty certain that the most contentious would continue to be filibustered. The unpublished part of the deal states that Democrats would also “promise” to not filibuster any Supreme Court nominees. However, considering that this portion of the deal isn’t in writing it would be impossible to get the Democrats to keep their word.
This deal is unacceptable for a number of reasons. First of all, as stated above, it would be difficult to hold Democrats to a deal that is not on paper. In fact, it would be difficult to hold them to a deal that is on paper. After all, who would really care of they broke the deal? The media certainly wouldn’t, in their eyes the Democrats would just be trying to keep “extremists” out of the court. The Democrats wouldn’t care, they would be grabbing the power that they couldn’t get in the election. The only people that would care are the Republicans, and they would have done it to themselves by signing on to this deal.
The second reason that the deal is unacceptable is that these judges that the Dems are obstructing really aren’t the radicals that they are portrayed to be. The American Bar Association (no rubber stamp for conservatives) has rated all of the nominees qualified or well qualified. In many cases the only reason that Democrats have publicly stated for holding up a nominee are their [the nominee’s] religious beliefs. How hypocritical of the Democrats to claim to be tolerant, but then to obstruct a nominee just because they are a person of faith.
The third reason that this deal is unacceptable is that this is a completely unprecedented use of the filibuster. The Democrats say that the Republicans have used it before, but when you ask them for an example the best they can come up with is a judge who was temporarily blocked to allow more debate. That’s not what the Democrats are doing. They have consistently blocked these nominees since Bush first put them up.
Finally, the way our system was designed is for majority rule. Yes, we need to co-operate with the minority, but we don’t have to give away the farm. The Republican party ran on a set of ideals in ‘00, ‘02, and ‘04 and we won on those ideals. The American people or Republican base, or whatever you want to call us expect them to do their job. Compromise on this issue is not only a change of tradition, it’s not acceptable to the majority of Americans.
