Nightline Reads the Names of War Dead Tonight
I will watch Nightline tonight with a sickening feeling in my stomach, much like one would watch two cars seconds before they collide. I would like to believe that Ted Coppel has the best of intensions in airing the names and photos of our war dead. I have watched and seen the liberal antiwar bias in the network news too many times to put any trust in what he says. I sincerely hope though that they would not use the sacrifice of hero’s such as Pat Tillman to further the agenda they have put forth in previous broadcasts.
NY Times Article Places Blame in the Wrong Hands
I found this article in the New York Times today. Although I completly agree our troops around the world deserve the best equipment money can buy, I think the times places the blame in the wrong place.
“It’s hard to imagine what the Pentagon was thinking when it told the American Army and Marine replacement divisions bound for Iraq earlier this year to leave their tanks and other heavily armored vehicles behind.”The Times article said, Quite frankly I don’t know what they were thinking either, the old saying goes…”That’s above my paygrade”. I do know that the political maneuvering by the likes of John Kerry and his voting against every major weapons system we are employing in the war against terror, the fact that he and his antiwar buddies voted against the 87 billion to fund our troops and the war probably played a part in the decision.

AC-130 “Spectre” Gunship Deployed in Fallujah
First, a warning. This is not a military blog. I thought that I would introduce you to some of the equipment and firepower that our fighting men have at their call. Both yesterday and today there have been reports that the “Spectre” gunship has been deployed against ground targets in Fallujah, Iraq.
This is one bad airplane with a deployment history dating back to the Vietnam war. It can place 105mm, 40mm, and 25mm ammunition on target with first round accuracy. Here are some of her general characteristics.

General Characteristics
Primary Function: Close air support, air interdiction and force protection
Builder: Lockheed/Boeing Corp.
Power Plant: Four Allison T56-A-15 turboprop engines
Thrust: 4,910 shaft horsepower each engine
Length: 97 feet, 9 inches (29.8 meters)
Height: 38 feet, 6 inches (11.7 meters)
Wingspan: 132 feet, 7 inches (40.4 meters)
Speed: 300 mph (Mach .4) (at sea level)
Range: Approximately 1,300 nautical miles; unlimited with air refueling.
Ceiling: 25,000 feet (7,576 meters
Maximum Takeoff Weight: 155,000 pounds (69,750 kilograms)
Armament: AC-130H/U: 40mm cannon and 105mm cannon; AC-130U: 25mm gun
Crew: AC-130U - Five officers (pilot, co-pilot, navigator, fire control officer, electronic warfare officer) and eight enlisted (flight engineer, TV operator, infrared detection set operator, loadmaster, four aerial gunners)
Deployment Date: AC-130H, 1972; AC-130U, 1995
Unit Cost: AC-130H, $132.4 million; AC-130U, $190 million (fiscal 2001 constant dollars)
This, and some of our bravest and finest ground troops against an estimated 1500 insurgents, hardly a fair fight. I suggest that the Saddam loyalists and terrorists give up their weapons and come out peacefully.

Usually I wouldn’t even give this site any recognition at all, but I think it is important, as conservatives, to know what our political adversary is up to.
The site has gained some fame today with their article titled “Dumb Jock Killed in Afghanistan” (speaking of Pat Tillman). The type of “reporting” [sic] that the Independent Media Center displays is disgusting. We do however need to know where the left is going if we are to combat them effectively.

ABC (yes ABC can you believe it?) has a great article on John Kerry’s latest flip flop. In 1971 he threw away the medals that he received for his service in the Vietnam War. Over the last several years that action has come back to haunt him in several Senate re-election campaigns. Now with his bid for the presidency on the line even those in the liberal media are beginning to ask questions about his anti war stance in the early 70’s.
For the full transcript of the 4/26/04 GMA interview that started this latest Kerry fire storm go to The Drudge Report.
Then there is this article in the Washington Times that shows that Kerry might not be doing as well in the polls as his advisers and mouthpieces would have us believe.
“Sen. John Kerry is trailing or tied with President Bush in many of the battleground states Democrats won in 2000 and that will likely decide the outcome of this year’s elections, according to a survey of polls across the country by The Washington Times.”
I’m not foolish enough to believe we have an easy re-election in front of us, or that the media is turning off their built in bias, what I do believe is that the honeymoon of the primaries is over for Kerry.
I have been trying to think of something to blog about all morning, but I seem to be having a major case of writer’s block. My fellow RMA’ers have some great blogs today. Go check out The Daily Blogster, Bob has a great analysis of the “Womens Rights” protests this weekend.

Recently, while in Michigan on a campaign stop, John Kerry bragged about owning many American made cars. Reportedly among them a Jeep and a suburban, so why on Thursday, during a conference call with reporters, did he sound like Bill Clinton ( “what is the meaning of is?” ) when he said,
“I don’t own an SUV…the family has it. I don’t have it”
Israel Criticized for Having Nukes
I found this article in the Seattle Post Intelligencer. Apparently there is a question of how many nukes Israel has. My first reaction is “so what”, but of course all the usual suspects are crying foul because Israel is a member of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.
It is clear that Israel is the only stable influence in the region, however with our efforts in Iraq hopefully things will begin to settle down. Until then I think Director-General Mohamed ElBaradei described the situation best when he said
“Nuclear deterrence or nuclear weapons (are) deeply ingrained in the Israeli psychology,” he said. “They think … that as long as many people, individuals (and) groups continue to talk about the destruction of Israel, they just simply cannot afford to give up the nuclear option in the absence of a comprehensive peace accepted by the people of the region.”
Sorry for not posting yesterday, I was busy fighting off hardware gremlins. Check out Hugh today, he has a great post about Kerry’s recent campaign implosion.

OPINION IN BRIEF
“Will it all happen again — the years of war, the tens of thousands of casualties, then the labor camps and killing fields — like a bad movie that can’t be turned off? That’s certainly what Moqtada al-Sadr wants us to think. If enough blood can be shed, enough chaos created, and, most important, enough specters raised, maybe the Americans can be forced to flee again. Fallujah can be another Mogadishu! Karbala another Beirut! Baghdad another Saigon! And, yes, Iraq another Vietnam! At least that’s the plan. Moqtada al-Sadr knows his audience well, not just in his country but in this one when he invokes the shade of Vietnam. He could be addressing Americans not from his hideout in Najaf but standing on the floor of the U.S. Senate alongside Ted Kennedy, who has already called Iraq ‘Bush’s Vietnam.’ Senator Byrd loves to trot out that line, too: ‘Surely I am not the only one who hears echoes of Vietnam….’ And he isn’t. The enemy dreams of another Vietnam, too. Fear remains the enemy’s greatest weapon. Fear of a wider war, of a longer war, of an unending war, of … another Vietnam. Moqtada al-Sadr and Osama bin Laden may both be fugitives unable to show themselves. But they’ve dispatched a mighty expeditionary force to the West. It is called Fear.” –Paul Greenberg

Andrew Sullivan and Air America
I’m looking at Andrew Sullivan’s blog on “Why Liberal Talk Radio Fails” this afternoon, and the only thing I can think to say is, “he just doesn’t get it”. He doesn’t get why Liberal radio won’t work, he doesn’t get why CNN and the alphabet networks have failed in the ratings wars and outlets such as Fox News have succeeded; and he certainly overestimates BBC and NPR when he says:
“…There is no bias at the BBC or NPR. Just professionalism!”
Yes, the reporters at the BBC and NPR are professional but please what kind of fools do you take us for Andrew? No bias? Anyone who has listened to NPR for more than 45 minutes can hear the bias. No, they don’t outright lie, but I have heard them numerous times omit and twist facts to fit their liberal agenda. The questions they ask on their interview shows tend to be softballs so long as they are interviewing a left leaning guest; but, when a conservative is being interviewed it sounds more like a pack of rabid dogs on a fresh steak. Furthermore, name one conservative host that regularly appears on NPR. No RINO’s please, I’m talking conservatives such as Hugh Hewitt or Laura Ingraham.
Andrew Sullivan has also tried to make the point that Fox News has become such a hit because:
“…The reason Fox News works is that its anchors and journalists are still obviously angry at being outsiders to the mainstream media culture…”
Wrong again Andrew. Fox has become a hit (at least among the people that I know) because there is no obvious overall liberal bias. Fox, for the 4+ years I have watched it, has done it’s best to present both sides of the story in their commentary shows; and they have tried to leave bias out of their news room all together.
Sure, the alphabet networks and CNN have their token conservatives but overall both their commentary and news sections swing well to the left. This is just not what mainstream America wants from their news organizations.
As far as why liberal talk radio and Air America won’t work, I go back to my earlier statement. This is just not what mainstream America wants from their news organizations or their radio talk shows. If it were, NPR wouldn’t have to be taxpayer subsidized. Talk radio is a business, you have to be able to sell your radio personalities to not just the public, but the advertisers as well.

NY Times Writers Way Off Base…
In this morning’s NY Times there is an article titled “Pre-9/11 Files Show Warnings Were More Dire and Persistent”. This article is more proof that not only is the “independent 9/11 commission” [sic] hell bent on the embarrassment and destruction of the administration, but some of the major media outlets are as well.
The writers of this piece (David Johnston and Jim Dwyer), have dutifully pointed out the underestimation of the Al Qaida threat by some members of the FBI and CIA after Jan 1, 2001, but prior to the attacks of 9/11. One of the things they have failed to do is point out the failings, dare I say, gross negligence of the Clinton administration in regard to the threat posed by Al Qaida, and the numerous opportunities they had to capture Bin Laden. The following are passages from a Dec. 5, 2001 article in the LA Times by Mansoor Ijaz a self proclaimed Clinton supporter:
President Clinton and his national security team ignored several opportunities to capture Osama bin Laden and his terrorist associates, including one as late as last year.
I know because I negotiated more than one of the opportunities.
From 1996 to 1998, I opened unofficial channels between Sudan and the Clinton administration. I met with officials in both countries, including Clinton, U.S. National Security Advisor Samuel R. “Sandy” Berger and the Sudanese president and intelligence chief. President Omar Hassan Ahmed Bashir, who wanted terrorism sanctions against Sudan lifted, offered the arrest and extradition of Bin Laden and detailed intelligence data about the global networks constructed by Egypt’s Islamic Jihad, Iran’s Hezbollah and the Palestinian Hamas….the silence of the Clinton administration in responding to these offers was deafening….”
“….The Sudanese offered to arrest Bin Laden and extradite him to Saudi Arabia or, barring that, to “baby-sit” him–monitoring all his activities and associates….”
Now back to this morning’s NY Times piece, Johnston and Dwyer write in defense of the Clinton administration:
“The Clinton Response: A Growing Priority, Hamstrung by Process
Throughout President Clinton’s eight years in office, law enforcement and intelligence agencies tracked Al Qaida through a succession of plots in the United States and overseas. The commission found new evidence that counterterrorism became a priority for the Clinton national security team. But the panel said the effort was stymied by bureaucratic miscommunications, diplomatic failures, intelligence lapses and policy miscalculations….”
The only reason that their response was “hamstrung by process” is the systematic destruction of information sharing between agencies initiated by the now infamous 1995 Gorelick memo .
I also found at least one glaring inaccuracy in the article as well. Johnston and Dwyer state that:
“….The briefing paper [Aug. 6th PDB] was presented to Mr. Bush on Aug. 6 at his Texas ranch. The memorandum, declassified on April 10 by the White House at the commission’s request, included some ominous information. It said that Qaida operatives had been in the United States for years, might be planning an attack in the United States and could be focusing on a building in Lower Manhattan as a target….”
Really? I have looked over the released transcript and can’t find a single word about Bin Laden’s henchmen focusing on a building in Lower Manhattan. As a matter of fact, as I said in an earlier post regarding the PDB, there are only two passages in the briefing that even remotely elude to the horror that we witnessed on 9/11.

I showed this comment to Guy this morning. His reply was “well, you know you’ve succeeded in the blog world when you start attracting the ‘tinfoil hat club’ “.
Please be aware that Tony Blair and George Bush have been removing all the real animals in the UK since January and there aren’t many left. Watch out when you’re outside - they have been replacing them with nasty little robot devices that look and smell just like the real ones but in fact they are fakes. Please visit my site to find the best way of catching them up. Just this morning I caught a baby rabbit in my fen trap and I’ve posted it straight back to bush. When I cut it open there was a great big dictaphone and a server hidden in its stomach so that it could broadcast our every move and stream it, WAP it and SMS it to all manner of evil governmental and dark forces. WE MUST ACT NOW

This week’s “Braying Jackass” award:
“Democrats are motivated to defeat the president this year. They’ve seen firsthand what three years of Bush administration policies have done to America. And they want to stop his policies from inflicting any more damage on working-class Americans, the environment, our international standing or a woman’s right to choose. … Many Democrats also admire Ralph Nader’s achievements, as I do. But if they truly want George Bush out of the White House, they won’t vote for Ralph Nader in November.” –Howard Dean, from his op-ed in this week’s NY Times.
Interestingly enough, Dean’s op-ed mentions Bush and Nader over and over, but mentions John Kerry’s name only once. Apparently Demos like Dean really are “motivated to defeat the president” rather than to elect one. So much for Kerry’s claim of a “united” party.
With Dean and Kennedy as its chief attack dogs, the Kerry campaign is living by the old adage to keep one’s friends close, and one’s enemies closer. The question is, who is what?

UBL Takes a Page From The Left
I found this while surfing yesterday afternoon during a slow period at work. One passage in particular caught my attention:
It is in the interest of both parties not to give a chance to those who shed the blood of nations for their limited personal interest and obedience to the gang of the White House.
This war earns millions of dollars for big companies, whether those who manufacture weapons or those involved in reconstruction such as Halliburton and its sisters and daughters. And it becomes very clear who benefits from igniting the fires of this war and bloodshed, it is the traders of war, the blood suckers who run the policy of the world from behind a curtain.
President (George W.) Bush and leaders in his sphere, big media institutions, and the United Nations which entrenches the relationship between the veto masters and the General Assembly slaves, are all instruments in deceiving and abusing people.
Funny, it sounds like Bin Laden has taken a page from the American left’s play book. Ted Kennedy and his buddies on the far left claim that they have a right to free speech and they do. When Ted’s crazy ideas start showing up in Bin Laden’s taped videos though, shouldn’t we be asking if the free speech rights of the far left have become something far more sinister, like giving aid and comfort to the enemy? It’s reckless free speech at the very least.
The left must learn that we are at war. We are at war with an enemy that will use anything and everything at their disposal to defeat us, including our own free speech rights. They must learn that, though we do have freedom of speech, our words sometimes come with consequences, and those consequences are sometimes a detriment to our common goals.
Now, a message for Bin Laden. We will not back down, we will not call a truce. Rabid animals such as you and your followers must be stopped. Democracy will prevail, and your brand of hatred must, and will be stamped out.

Tony Blair, in today’s guardian, makes an absolutely brilliant argument for why we need to stay the course in Iraq.
We are locked in a historic struggle in Iraq. On its outcome hangs more than the fate of the Iraqi people. Were we to fail, which we will not, it is more than ‘the power of America’ that would be defeated. The hope of freedom and religious tolerance in Iraq would be snuffed out. Dictators would rejoice; fanatics and terrorists would be triumphant. Every nascent strand of moderate Arab opinion, knowing full well that the future should not belong to fundamentalist religion, would be set back in bitter disappointment.
If we succeed - if Iraq becomes a sovereign state, governed democratically by the Iraqi people; the wealth of that potentially rich country, their wealth; the oil, their oil; the police state replaced by the rule of law and respect for human rights - imagine the blow dealt to the poisonous propaganda of the extremists. Imagine the propulsion toward change it would inaugurate all over the Middle East.
In every country, including our own, the fanatics are preaching their gospel of hate, basing their doctrine on a willful perversion of the true religion of Islam. At their fringe are groups of young men prepared to conduct terrorist attacks however and whenever they can. Thousands of victims the world over have now died, but the impact is worse than the death of innocent people.
The terrorists prey on ethnic or religious discord. From Kashmir to Chechnya, to Palestine and Israel, they foment hatred, they deter reconciliation. In Europe, they conducted the massacre in Madrid. They threaten France. They forced the cancellation of the President of Germany’s visit to Djibouti. They have been foiled in Britain, but only for now.
Of course they use Iraq. It is vital to them. As each attack brings about American attempts to restore order, so they then characterize it as American brutality. As each piece of chaos menaces the very path toward peace and democracy along which most Iraqis want to travel, they use it to try to make the coalition lose heart, and bring about the retreat that is the fanatics’ victory.
They know it is a historic struggle. They know their victory would do far more than defeat America or Britain. It would defeat civilization and democracy everywhere. They know it, but do we? The truth is, faced with this struggle, on which our own fate hangs, a significant part of Western opinion is sitting back, if not half-hoping we fail, certainly replete with schadenfreude at the difficulty we find.
So what exactly is the nature of the battle inside Iraq itself? This is not a ‘civil war’, though the purpose of the terrorism is undoubtedly to try to provoke one. The current upsurge in violence has not spread throughout Iraq. Much of Iraq is unaffected and most Iraqis reject it. The insurgents are former Saddam sympathizers, angry that their status as ‘boss’ has been removed, terrorist groups linked to al-Qaeda and, most recently, followers of the Shia cleric, Muqtada-al-Sadr.
The latter is not in any shape or form representative of majority Shia opinion. He is a fundamentalist, an extremist, an advocate of violence. He is wanted in connection with the murder of the moderate and much more senior cleric, Ayatollah al Khoei last year. The prosecutor, an Iraqi judge, who issued a warrant for his arrest, is the personification of how appallingly one-sided some of the Western reporting has become. Dismissed as an American stooge, he has braved assassination attempts and extraordinary intimidation in order to follow proper judicial process and has insisted on issuing the warrant despite direct threats to his life in doing so.
There you have it. On the one side, outside terrorists, an extremist who has created his own militia, and remnants of a brutal dictatorship which murdered hundreds of thousands of its own people and enslaved the rest. On the other side, people of immense courage and humanity who dare to believe that basic human rights and liberty are not alien to Arab and Middle Eastern culture, but are their salvation.
Over the past few weeks, I have met several people from the Iraqi government, the first genuine cross-community government Iraq had seen. People like Mrs Barwari, the Minister of Public Works, who has just survived a second assassination attempt that killed her bodyguard; people like Mr Zebari, the Foreign Minister. They are intelligent, forward-looking, tolerant, dedicated to their country. They know that ‘the occupation’ can be used to stir up anti-coalition feeling; they, too, want their country governed by its people and no one else. But they also know that if we cut and run, their country would be at the mercy of warring groups which are united only in their distaste for democracy.
The tragedy is that outside of the violence which dominated the coverage of Iraq, there are incredible possibilities of progress. There is a huge amount of reconstruction going on; the legacy of decades of neglect is slowly being repaired.
By 1 June, electricity will be 6,000MW, 50 per cent more than prewar, but short of the 7,500MW they now need because of the massive opening up of the economy, set to grow by 60 per cent this year and 25 per cent the next.
The first private banks are being opened. A new currency is in circulation. Those in work have seen their salaries trebled or quadrupled and unemployment is falling. One million cars have been imported. Thirty per cent now have satellite TV, once banned, where they can watch al-Jazeera, the radical Arab TV station, telling them how awful the Americans are.
The internet is no longer forbidden. Shrines are no longer shut. Groups of women and lawyers meet to discuss how they can make sure the new constitution genuinely promotes equality. The universities eagerly visit Western counterparts to see how a modern, higher-education system, free to study as it pleases, would help the new Iraq.
People in the West ask: why don’t they speak up, these standard-bearers of the new Iraq? Why don’t the Shia clerics denounce al-Sadr more strongly? I understand why the question is asked. But the answer is simple: they are worried. They remember 1991, when the West left them to their fate. They know their own street, unused to democratic debate, rife with every rumor, and know its volatility. They read the Western papers and hear its media. And they ask, as the terrorists do: have we the stomach to see it through?
I believe we do. And the rest of the world must hope that we do. None of this is to say we do not have to learn and listen. There is an agenda that could unite the majority of the world. It would be about pursuing terrorism and rogue states on the one hand and actively remedying the causes around which they flourish on the other: the Palestinian issue; poverty and development; democracy in the Middle East; dialogue between main religions.
I have come firmly to believe the only ultimate security lies in our values. The more people are free, the more tolerant they are of others; the more prosperous, the less inclined they are to squander that prosperity on pointless feuding and war.
But our greatest threat, apart from the immediate one of terrorism, is our complacency. When some ascribe, as they do, the upsurge in Islamic extremism to Iraq, do they really forget who killed whom on 11 September 2001? When they call on us to bring the troops home, do they seriously think that this would slake the thirst of these extremists, to say nothing of what it would do to the Iraqis?
Or if we scorned our American allies and told them to go and fight on their own, that somehow we would be spared? If we withdraw from Iraq, they will tell us to withdraw from Afghanistan and, after that, to withdraw from the Middle East completely and, after that, who knows? But one thing is for sure: they have faith in our weakness just as they have faith in their own religious fanaticism. And the weaker we are, the more they will come after us.
It is not easy to persuade people of all this; to say that terrorism and unstable states with WMD are just two sides of the same coin; to tell people what they don’t want to hear; that, in a world in which we in the West enjoy all the pleasures, profound and trivial, of modern existence, we are in grave danger.
There is a battle we have to fight, a struggle we have to win and it is happening now in Iraq.

Luke 24
The Resurrection
1On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7′The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” 8Then they remembered his words.
9When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. 10It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. 11But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. 12Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.
On the Road to Emmaus
13Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles[1] from Jerusalem. 14They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. 15As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; 16but they were kept from recognizing him.
17He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”
18They stood still, their faces downcast. One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you only a visitor to Jerusalem and do not know the things that have happened there in these days?”
19″What things?” he asked.
20″About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; 21but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. 22In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning 23but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. 24Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see.”
25He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26Did not the Christ[2] have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” 27And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
28As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus acted as if he were going farther. 29But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.
30When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
33They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” 35Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.
Jesus Appears to the Disciples
36While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
37They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. 38He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”
40When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. 41And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43and he took it and ate it in their presence.
44He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”
45Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48You are witnesses of these things. 49I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”
The Ascension
50When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. 52Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. 53And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.
4/10/2004
Today, about 6:30 pm EST, the administration released the PDB that Dr. Rice referred to in her April 8th 2004 testimony in front of the 9/11 commission. Obviously, due to national security concerns, there are portions of the text that were omitted, but given the portions that were, I cannot understand what all the fuss is about.
There are only two passages in the briefing that even remotely elude to the horror that we wittnessed on 9/11:
1) …We have not been able to corroborate some of the more sensational threat reporting, such as that from a [deleted text] service in 1998 saying that Bin Laden wanted to hijack a U.S. aircraft to gain the release of “Blind Shaykh” ‘Umar’ Abd aI-Rahman and other U.S.-held extremists…
2) …Nevertheless, FBI information since that time indicates patterns of suspicious activity in this country consistent with preparations for hijackings or other types of attacks, including recent surveillance of federal buildings in New York…
The rest of the briefing talks about the foothold that Al Queda had in the U.S. at that time. Due to previously released reports, and recent interviews We already knew about that though.
Clandestine, foreign government, and media reports indicate Bin Laden since 1997, has wanted to conduct terrorist attacks in the U.S. Bin Laden implied in U.S. television interviews in 1997 and 1998 that his followers would follow the example of World Trade Center bomber Ramzi Yousef and “bring the fighting to America.”
After U.S. missile strikes on his base in Afghanistan in 1998, Bin Laden told followers he wanted to retaliate in Washington, according to a [deleted text] service.
All this screaming and crying by the left over this? I’m just an average joe, but to me it seems to me the Dems are grasping at straws again.

The Lord is risen indeed…
Luke 24
I send greetings to Christians around the world as they gather to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus’ life and teachings continue to speak to every generation, and Christians believe his miraculous Resurrection provides hope for the future and offers us the promise of new life.
Through His ministry and sacrifice, Jesus demonstrated God’s unconditional love for us. He taught us the importance of helping others and loving our neighbors. His selfless devotion and mercy provide a remarkable example for all of us.
As families and friends gather to enjoy this Easter season, we celebrate God’s gift of freedom and His love that conquers death. For those who observe Easter, our faith brings confidence that good will overcome evil and that joy is everlasting. Today, we give thanks for God’s many blessings and pray for His peace in the affairs of men.
Laura joins me in sending our best wishes for a happy Easter.

After seeing part of Dr. Rices testimony in front of the 9/11 commission today, and seeing the press coverage tonight on the evening news, one thing in particular troubles me. This seems more like an attack on the administration than an attempt to get to the bottom of what happened on September 11th 2001.
Here are some quotes from today’s question and answer session:
BEN-VENISTE: I want to ask you some questions about the August 6th PDB was prepared and self-generated by a CIA employee. Following Director Tenet’s testimony on March 26th before us, the CIA clarified its version of events, saying that questions by the president prompted them to prepare the August 6th PDB.
Now, you have said to us in our meeting together earlier in February, that the president directed the CIA to prepare the August 6th PDB.
The extraordinary high terrorist attack threat level in the summer of 2001 is well-documented. And Richard Clarke’s testimony about the possibility of an attack against the United States homeland was repeatedly discussed from May to August within the intelligence community, and that is well-documented.
You acknowledged to us in your interview of February 7, 2004, that Richard Clarke told you that Al Qaeda cells were in the United States.
Did you tell the president, at any time prior to August 6th, of the existence of Al Qaeda cells in the United States?
RICE: First, let me just make certain…
BEN-VENISTE: If you could just answer that question, because I only have a very limited…
RICE: I understand, Commissioner, but it’s important…
BEN-VENISTE: Did you tell the president…
RICE: … that I also address…
(APPLAUSE)
It’s also important that, Commissioner, that I address the other issues that you have raised. So I will do it quickly, but if you’ll just give me a moment.
BEN-VENISTE: Well, my only question to you is whether you…
RICE: I understand, Commissioner, but I will…
BEN-VENISTE: … told the president.
Now, Mr. Ben-veniste what was so terrible about letting Dr. Rice clarify what you were asking her?
BEN-VENISTE: Isn’t it a fact, Dr. Rice, that the August 6th PDB warned against possible attacks in this country? And I ask you whether you recall the title of that PDB?
RICE: I believe the title was, “Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States.”
Now, the…
BEN-VENISTE: Thank you.
RICE: No, Mr. Ben-Veniste…
BEN-VENISTE: I will get into the…
RICE: I would like to finish my point here.
BEN-VENISTE: I didn’t know there was a point.
Is it really necessary to be rude, can’t you let her finish her answer? Unlike you, and the Democrat attack machine Mr. Ben-veniste, I will give you all the time you need to answer these questions.

Clay Calhoun reminds us today of a conflict that most of us aren’t even aware that we are involved in. The fact that this information is not more widely known is proof that there is a systimatic dismantling of this country’s christian heritage by the secularist left.
A quick thanks to Ben for reminding us how hypocritical the dems have been on the WMD issue, and to Bob for reminding us of what true leadership means in a time of crisis.
With Severe weather season upon us I have decided to post another weather link. This one is to NOAA weather radar (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association) for the public good. During a severe weather outbreak, time = saved lives. Besides, where else can you get cool images like this.

From Richard Clarke’s testimony in front of the 9/11 comission:
GORTON: Now, since my yellow light is on, at this point my final question will be this: Assuming that the recommendations that you made on January 25th of 2001, based on Delenda, based on Blue Sky, including aid to the Northern Alliance, which had been an agenda item at this point for two and a half years without any action, assuming that there had been more Predator reconnaissance missions, assuming that that had all been adopted say on January 26th, year 2001, is there the remotest chance that it would have prevented 9/11?
CLARKE: No.
Case closed.
